Newly  20 Int. universities soon

<p>The Higher Education Ministry will set up 15 or 20 international
universities in Sri Lanka.
<p>The establishment of these universities would help to strengthen the  free
education system as each university has pledged to offer 20 percent
scholarships to local students, Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake
told the Sunday Observer Online.
<p>Over 8,000 students go to various foreign countries to follow their
degrees, masters and Phds, annually. A sum of Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000
million is lost to the country when nearly 8,000 local students go to
foreign countries for their higher studies annually. If the foreign
universities are established here, a huge amount of valuable foreign
exchange could be saved, the Minister said.
