Trade unions commend the budget [November 23 2010]

Trade Union leaders commending the yesterday's budget said more relief had given to masses.

General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Independent Workers Union Lesley Devendra said although it was development oriented, great relief had given to ordinary people by increasing their salaries.

"The President has not forgotten to provide relief to the masses through the budget. The salaries of the public sector employees have been increased by five percent and a cost of living allowance of Rs. 600 has been added", he said.

President of the Public Services Trade Union Federation W.H. Piyadasa said the budget has provided concessions to those joining the state service as well.

"It is a commendable decision to recruit 13,000persons to the government service", he said.
