Over 86,000 war widows need assistance

<P>The Jaffna district Parliamentarian Vijayakala Maheswaran requests the
government to take welfare measures for war widows and orphans in the
North and East.

<P>She said there were 86,000 war widows due to the three decades of war in the
North and they need assistance.
<p>Vijayakala Maheswaran who is the wife of late Parliamentarian T.
Maheswaran became a widow when Maheswaran was assassinated at a temple
in Colombo, three years ago.

<P>Vijayakala urged the government to increase the welfare measures for the
war widows and the orphans in the North and East.
