Three Profs shortlisted to be Jaffna University VC [November 29 2010]

Names of three professors have been shortlisted to be the next Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna. The top three out of 12 contestants were elected during the weekend by 21-member Senate of the University of Jaffna.

Following the Senate meeting, Professor Ms. Vasanthy Arasaratnam, who received 14 votes to finish on top and incumbent Vice Chancellor N. Shanmugalingham and Professor Ratna Jeevan Hoole, who obtained 9 votes each, were shortlisted for the post.

Their names have been sent to the President for the final ratification. Professor Ratna Jeevan Hoole who was attached to the Engineering Faculty of the University of Peradeniya, was appointed in 2006 by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Vice Chancelor of the University. But following LTTE threats, he was forced to migrate to the US with his family.
