New water treatment plant for East [December 01 2010]

A new water treatment plant planned for construct at a cost of US $ 92.6 million in the district of Amparai in Sri Lanka’s eastern coast will provide clean drinking water to approximately 75 percent of the district’s population.

The treatment plant is the third and final phase of the Integrated Water Supply Scheme that was initiated to provide water to the “un-served” areas in the Amparai district as a part of a larger initiative by the government to provide pipe borne drinking water to the country’s rural areas.
