President’s speech cancelled due to pro-LTTE pressure [December 02 2010]

The President Rajapaksa’s speech at the Oxford Union was cancelled due to pressure by the pro-LTTE activists, the Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga said in a statement.

The Oxford Union cancelled the proposed address by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, yesterday citing security concerns.

“ It was reported that it was as a result of pressure applied by pro-LTTE activists”, he said.

President Rajapaksa is in the UK with a senior delegation of Sri Lankan politicians and business leaders. During this visit the delegation are meeting with UK parliamentarians, business leaders and members of the SriLankan community in the UK.
