School children and general public will get a rare opportunity to study on the electricity distribution process from Sri Lanka’s three major hydro power projects, the Victoria, Wimalasurendra, Samanalawewa and the thermal power plant at Kelanitissa during the forthcoming school vacation which will commence on December 10.

According to this program, school children in groups and others could visit these four major power stations from December 13.

A team of officials, attached to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will be deployed at each power station to educate students.

Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka told the Sunday Observer on- line that the objective of implementing such a program for the first time in Sri Lanka is to educate the younger generation on development activities currently being carried out in the country.

During this period school children and general public will be able to have a close look on sophisticated technological equipment that are used to generate power.

The officials will also educate people how to use home electrical appliances in a methodical manner to save energy.

A senior CEB spokesman requested school children to obtain a special permission from the CEB with an approval of respective school heads prior to their visits.

In addition, general public or any other organisation who wish to visit these power stations could get approvals obtained from the CEB.

More details in this regard could be obtained from General Manager, CEB Head Quarters, Sir Chittampalam A Gardinar Mawatha, Colombo 2.
