A special license will be issued for school vans from January, 2011 and the vans in the Western province will be issues licenses under the first phase.
The program is jointly launched by the National Child Protection Authority, the Association of School Van Owners and Civil Defence Transport Union.
The decision of registering all vehicles transporting school children was taken by the Transport Board as it had received over 20,000 applications.
Licenses will be issued for school vans in all regions in the Island during the next few months. The vehicles that have not obtained licenses will be banned from engaging in school transport.
