Parliament proceedings cancelled tomorrow to pay last respects to Late President [September 24 2008]

Leaders of the main political parties today decided to cancel Thursday’s Parliament proceedings as the casket carrying the late President D.B Wijethunga's remains is scheduled to be brought to the Parliament tomorrow.

Late President's casket will be brought to the Sri Lankan parliament at about 9:00 a.m. for the legislators to pay their last respects. Speaker W.J.M Lokubandara said the remains will lay for two hours in the parliament.

Following the viewing the casket is scheduled to be taken to the Sri Lankan hill country where the funeral is to take place with full state honors at Gatambe, Kandy tomorrow evening.
