IAAF President Lamine Diack in town [October 20 2008]

President of the World athletic governing body – IAAF, Lamine Diack arrived in Sri Lanka last night on a three-day official tour. The 75-year-old Senegal national who heads the 216-nation World track and field body, said he is happy to be in Sri Lanka, which he named as an emerging athletic force in the world.

The World athletic chief flew to Diyagama (five km off Kottawa) this morning. He inspected the construction work of Sri Lanka’s new international athletic stadium in Diyagama a short while ago. He is expected return to Colombo in the afternoon and is due to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.

Diack will also address the Sri Lanka national athletes and coaches at the National Olympic House, Torrington Square this evening.
