A powerful claymore mine weighing three and half kilograms was found near the the Valachchenai bus stand today. It was defused immediately by the security forces, Valachchenai police said.
According to the defence sources, the mine, placed near a shop was found on information given by a civilian. There were a large number of morning commuters at the bus stand when the claymore mine was found.
Valachchenai Police is making further investigations and has cautioned people in the area of similar moves by the LTTE terrorists to disrupt civil life.
