Sports Minister dissolves rugby selection committee [October 22 2008]

Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge today dissolved the national rugby selection committee, headed by Japuna Jayawardene and replaced it with an entirely new set of selectors. Interestingly, none of the previous selectors have been included in the new five-member selection committee named today.

Former Trinity centre three quarter and and ex-CH & FC captain Rohan Abeykoon has been named new Chairman of selectors. Minister Lokuge told the Observer Online a short while ago that the selections made by the previous committee for the Dubai Sevens and Youth Asiad in South Korea and the appointment of Dushanth Lewke as captain are null and void. "The new selection committee will name a fresh squad and a captain," the Minister said.
