Govt to implement price control during festive season [November 05 2008]

The Government will take necessary measures to control the prices of essential goods that might go up during the festive season, President Mahinda Rajapaksa told a special meeting held at Temple Trees. Addressing the meeting held on food protection and control of cost of living, the President said measures which could be implemented to prevent the price hikes that might occur in the market during the festive season would be taken to protect consumers.

Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that if the price of rice goes up all measures will be taken to stabilize the price of rice while the Minister also mentioned that the price of gas will be reduced by December. Steps to promote the Agricultural sector were also a key issue in the discussions and necessary instructions were given to the officials by the President.
