The bus fares will be reduced with from Tuesday(11), following the reduction of diesel price by the budget proposals. An official of the National Transport Commission (NTC) of Sri Lanka told the Observer Online that they will advertise the reduced rates in the national newspapers on Monday (10).
According to the media release the bus fares will be reduced by nearly 10 percent. The current minimum fare will be reduced by Rs.1/- will now become Rs.6/-. The current 10/- fare will be reduced to Rs. 9/-. Though the NTC has decided to reduce the controversial seven rupee minimum bus fare by a one rupee, the private bus owners said that they couldn't agree to such a reduction.
