Sri Lanka thrashes West Indian women [November 09 2008]

Sri Lanka crushed West Indies by eight wickets in their third women's one day international cricket encounter played at Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala today.

Batting first, the visitors were bowled out for 125 in 44.3 overs with Daniel Hall making a top score of 37 not out. Rose Fernando, with figures of 3 for 22, was the most impressive Lankan bowler.

In reply, the Lankan openers Dedunu Silva and in-form Chamri Polgampola shared a record century opening stand (119 runs) to win the match in style.

The win enabled Sri Lanka to take a thrilling 2-1 lead in the five-match series after losing the opening match at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The two teams will now travel to Colombo to play the two remaining games.
