The Co-ordinating Secretary to Eastern Province Chief Minister and his driver were assassinated by unknown gunmen this morning in Oruwela, Athurugiriya. Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan’s Co-ordinating Secretary Kumara-swamy Nandagopan and his driver S.T.M. Nazeer were gunned down in Oruwela around 11.25 a.m.
“The incident took place along the Kaduwela-Athurugiriya road close to Millennium City,” he added. The Volvo vehicle bearing number EP KH-3685 was blocked and forced to the side of the road before it was attacked. Both side of the roads were thick jungle.
