Doctors to hold central committee meeting tomorrow on security issue [November 22 2008]

The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) will hold a special central committee meeting tomorrow (23) to decide on further activities regarding the security issue. Day to day activities of some hospitals in the North and East have been paralyzed for the third consecutive day due to absence of the Sinhala doctors.

A senior official of the GMOA said that the doctors who worked in the North and East hospitals will not go for the duties until the government ensures their security.

According to the sources the Out Patient Department and daily clinics in Batticaloa Hospital totally failed while the daily operations also had to be cancelled. Same situation was reported from the Vavuniya Hospital as the Sinhala doctors decided to withdraw following the killing of Medical Superintendent of the Vavunathivu Hospital in Batticaloa last Sunday night.
