Kerawalapitiya plant to join the National Grid on Saturday [November 23 2008]

The electricity generation of the newly constructed 300 megawatt Kerawalapitiya thermal power plant will commence next Sunday (23), the Ceylon Electricity Board announced today. The power house will begin to generate 200 megawatts this year and will expand to 300 megawatts within a year. The price of an electric unit generated in Kerawalapitiya plant is estimated at 20 rupees. Sri Lanka's electricity demand is growing by 8% annually and the CEB decided to construct the Kerawalapitiya plant to meet the demand.
