Cordon and search operations

Police carried out a massive cordon and search operation in Batticaloa yesterday. A police curfew was imposed from 5 am to 6 pm yesterday in twelve police divisions in the Batticaloa district, to track down LTTE cadres in the area, in the aftermath of the killing of 15 civilians in the last few days.

The police said the aim of the search operation is not only to apprehend LTTE terrorists who have infiltrated into the district but also to recover their weapons used in these activities .
