No Lankans affected in Mumbai [November 29 2008]

The Foreign Ministry yesterday said that of the 650 to 700 Sri Lankans who were in India during the terror attack on Thursday, only one Sri Lankan was staying at the Taj Hotel, Mumbai at the time of the incident.

According to reports, a large number of expatriates was killed or suffered injuries in the attack. This was confirmed by Sri Lanka's Consul General in Mumbai H.M. Wijeratna to the local media on Friday. He said that the relations of those in Mumbai should not panic as no Sri Lankan was affected.

According to Consul General Wijeratna, the only Lankan who was in the Hotel at the time had immediately left the place on hearing about the attack. As he was without his travel documents we made arrangements to send him back to Sri Lanka with a temporary passport.
