UGC refers to students forcibly dragged into protests

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has said that it has received several complaints about students being forcibly dragged into protests.

Information has been bared that certain groups were inciting students to participate in processions and protests under the pretext of Student Union activities.

UGC Chairman Prof. Gamini Samarnayake said that complaints were continuously made by parents in this respect. It has been revealed that students of high-tech institutes were also being considered as University students.

The Chairman has requested the parents to be cautious about students participating in activities outside unions that have been recognized under the University Act.
