SLC denies media reports on Dilshan

Sri Lanka Cricket today denied media reports that dashing opener Tillakaratne Dilshan was reported for ‘possible involvement with bookmakers’ although it asserted that paceman Dilhara Fernando last year reported to the team management about a “suspicious approach” by bookies. However, the SLC, said that Fernando was never under the radar of International Cricket Council (ICC) for any misconduct as alleged by a local English daily newspaper.

The national governing body for cricket denied Dilshan was reported for possible involvement with illegal bookmakers, after Londons Daily Mail reported yesterday that Dilshans name features in a team managers report over an alleged meeting with a bookmaker in London while the team was participating in the T20 World Cup last year.

The report identified Dilshan as the player named in a SLC report to ICCs ACSU last year after he was allegedly spotted with a suspected illegal bookmaker in a London nightclub

The SLC neither captain Kumar Sangakkara nor the team management reported a specific player or players to the ICC anti-corruption and security unit or to the SLC administration.
