International cricket comes to Hambantota on Wednesday [September 13 2010]

International cricket will come to Hambantota for the first time when Sri Lanka ‘A’ play host to Pakustan ‘A’ in the second Unofficial Test to be played at the newly constructed Suriyawewa International Stadium.

The stadium, the brainchild of Tharunyata Hetak President and parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, is already selected as a host venue of next year’s ICC World Cup and this weeks unofficial Test will baptise the stadium as an international venue.

The first unofficial Test between Sri Lanka ‘A’ and Pakistan ‘A’, affected by rain, ended in a drab draw at Galle International Stadium yesterday. Kaushal Silva and Thilina Kandamby scored centuries for the home team.
