Transport Minister Kumara Welgama ruled out possibility of increase of bus fares in near future. He said that the Government will not allow private bus operators to increase fares under any circumstance.
The Minister said he was not informed of a request by the private bus operators to increase fares. “Even if the private bus operators want to increase fares, we will make sure that the CTB fares remain as it is,” the Minister said.
The Private Bus Operators Association has demanded a two percent fare increase and its President, Gemunu Wijeyratne has said the association will go to courts if their request is not met soon.
