Court orders to refer pole man to psychiatrist

[September 15 2010]

The Court has ordered the police to refer the man, who protested on top of a hoarding near the Viharamahadevi park demanding to talk to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, to a psychiatrist. His half-day protest ended when fire brigade officials removed him from the tall metal structure and took him to hospital last night.

He refused to reveal his identity and said he would stage the protest until he meets the President. Later he was identified as Asanga de Soyza.

Police had taken him into custody for disturbing peace. Later it was revealed that Soyza was wanted by the Fraud Bureau over a vehicle fraud.
