UNP MP rejects Ranil’s ‘day dreams’

[September 16 2010]

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to name another low-profile MP to the Parliament Council. Wickremesinghe has said that he nominated TNA MP Sumandiran, knowing true well that his party would reject it.

Wickremesinghe, struggling to retain his own party leadership, claimed that he nominated a TNA parliamentarian to cripple the activities of the council. The UNP claimed that since he has nominated Sumandiran and he will not be attending the commission the President will be forced to remove Sumandiran.

But a senior Gampaha District UNP MP ejected his leader’s idea as “utter nonsense”. He said Wickermesinghe is living in his own fantasy. “How could he challenge the President or Government when he cant control his own party and have at least 25 MPs to support him,” the UNP MP said.
