Ban commends President’s strong political mandate

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon commending President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s strong political mandate, urged to make the opportunity to address the issues of political settlement, reconciliation and accountability.  

Moon met President Rajapaksa yesterday at the UN Headquarters on the margins of the General Assembly’s annual general debate.

According to the statement issued by UN Spokesman on the meeting, the duo talked about the need to move forward expeditiously on outstanding issues covered in the joint statement of May 2009.

President Rajapaksa said development and education in the North of Sri Lanka were integral to national reconciliation.
