SPORTS: Thilini ready for Commonwealth Games [September 27 2010]

Sri Lanka’s only Olympic woman shuttler Thilini Jayasinghe said she is ready to compete at next month’s Commonweal Games in New Delhi. Jayasinghe, who skipped Sunday’s women’s singles final against compatriot Chandrika de Silva in the Mercantile Championship due to an injury, said she will definitely make it with the Sri Lanka contingent.

“I had back to back matches in the Mercantile Championships. On the final day, I had to play in two other finals before the women’s singles final and did not want to take a chance with a hamstring injury I had,” she told the Observer Online.

Jayasinghe said she is in good shape and is confident of making her presence felt in the big league. Jayasinghe regained supremacy at the Central Province Open Championship last week to win two titles. On her way to women’s singles crown, she humbled Achini Ratnasiri in the semi finals and crushed veteran Chandrika de Silva in the final.
