Commissioner to review application from new political parties [September 28 2010]

The Elections Department will review over 60 applications from new political parties for registration from early next month. The process will begin once the Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake returns to Colombo this weekend after a long holiday overseas following the Presidential and general elections early this year.

The Election Commissioner will soon conduct interviews for registration of new political parties and would also arrive at a final conclusion regarding the changes of numbers of MPs in each district in accordance with the registry of voters of 2009. Following the appointment of the new Parliamentary Council from early next year, Dissanayake plans to relinquish his duties by the end of January.
