Fonseka’s jail term ratified   [September 30 2010]

The two-and-a-half-year jail sentence imposed on Sarath Fonseka after being convicted by a military court, has been formally ratified by the Head of State.

Informed sources said President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as a mere formality, ratified the decision of the court. Though it was originally announced that Fonseka has been sentenced for three years, only a 30-month jail term been ordered in the final verdict.
