A Track and Trace System will be introduced to networking the post offices in Sri Lanka.

According to the new system, a bar code will be given to each letter and a parcel to be delivered. The new facility will help one to identify the post office in which a letter or parcel was posted and the receiving post office through the internet, a Posts and Telecommunication Ministry spokesman told the Sunday Observer online.

The Ministry in collaboration with Moratuwa university has already commenced networking 647 main post offices and 3500 sub post offices. A sum of Rs.600 million has been allocated to implement the first stage of the project which is scheduled to be completed by the end of December this year, he said.
