Justice Ministry Launches National Task Force on Human Trafficking [October 04 2010]

To accelerate the governments efforts in combating the crime of human trafficking and to increase the co-ordination among stakeholders to support successful prosecutions and

the protection of victims, the Ministry of Justice has taken the

initiative to establish an Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Human trafficking is a modern day form of slavery and it has become one of the most dangerous and increasing transnational organized crimes. The Government of Sri Lanka has therefore taken measures to combat trafficking by amending the existing law in accordance with its international obligations and taking concrete prevention measures.

The establishment of a National Task Force is one such measure. Task Force members will meet on a monthly basis and will share information and good practices among participating stakeholders.
