HR Committee rejects UNP’s claim [October 07 2010]

The Human Rights Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union has rejected the UNP complaint on Sarath Fonseka’s arrest.

In reply to the complaint lodged by the UNP Parliamentarian Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena, the Minister of Plantation Industries Mahinda Samarasingha had explained to the Committee that the rights of Fonseka had been fully upheld.

After the explanation of the former Minister of Human Rights Samarasinghe, the 154-member Committee has rejected Jayawardena’s complaint and said the government had followed proper legal procedures during Fonseka?s trial and arrest.
