Wrestler Kumara set to win men’s 55kg bronze [October 10 2010]

Sri Lanka’s Y.M.S. Manel Kumara narrowly missed a place in the final of the freestyle men’s 55kg event of the Commonwealth Games wrestling competition worked off in New Delhi today. He is now down to take on Indian Anil Kumar in their play off match to decide the bronze medal of the event.Kumara went down to Pakistan’s Azhar Hussain on points 0-5 in their semi final bout concluded a short while ago this evening.

Earlier in the day, he made it to the semi finals of the event with a resounding win. Competing from the red corner, Kumara showed his power and technique to humble Justin Holland of Australia on points 3-0 inn his quarter final bout worked off at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in the Indian capital today.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Salman Muhammad beat Sri Lanka’s Roshan Liyanage in their in their men’s freestyle 66kg bout of the Commonwealth Games wrestling competition worked off in New Delhi today. Muhammad, in the blue corner, was in top form as he out pointed the Lankan in style 3-0.
