No immediate bus fare hike [October 11 2010]

The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) will not increase private bus fares. They will not join the strike action planned before.  The LPBOA earlier threatened to go on strike they are not granted permission for a fare increase.

The Association has given a four-week ultimatum to the government to draw up a time table for the private operators. The Association president Gemunu Wijeratne said a common time table will solve the several problems faced by them.  However, Wijeratne said the Government must provide a quality bus service.

He went to the extent of offering to resign from his post if the government is successful in providing a quality service to the passengers.
