New Government to be formed [October 12 2010]

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today that his second term in office will be a decisive period that will bring development to the country, ravaged by an ethnic war for three decades. Addressing trade union leaders at Temple Trees today, the President said the war is over now and the next step will be to develop the country.

The President said that a new government will be formed once he swears in for the second term on November 10. The Budget for 2011 will be presented in Parliament after he forms a ‘new Government. The President will be taking oaths on November 19 for a second term. The budget for 2011 is scheduled to be tabled in the parliament on November 22.

President Rajapaksa said discipline is a compulsory factor to build a developed country and urged the union leaders and the working class to support his goals for the country. He told the union representatives that the government cannot plan short term for one or two years but need to have a clear long-term plan leading towards development and the government needs the cooperation of the unions for a successful outcome.

The government has already drawn plans to accomplish the future development targets and the trade unions should extend their utmost support to strengthen the public service, the President said. Praising the working people for their service for the country with proper understanding of the present situation, the President said the government is committed to share the benefits of development equally among the public.
