Sri Lanka one of the most preferred investment destinations [October 13 2010]

Sri Lanka’s safe and peaceful environment after eradicating the LTTE terrorism has made Sri Lanka one of the most preferred investment destinations among the international business community, the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen said.

He said the strategic location of the island, market friendly economic policies, transparent investment laws, highly literate and easily trainable work force are the other factors that attribute to bring more investors to the country.

Minister Bathiudeen delivering the key note address at the US-Sri Lanka private Public Partnership Conference held in Colombo said the international business community had already begun to pay serious interest in investing in Sri Lanka with emerging opportunities.

“ After ending the world’s dangerous terrorist group-the LTTE- and after suffering immeasurably  Sri Lanka is on the threshold of a new era with much hope and optimism for peace, stability and prosperity with a brighter economic future”, he said.

He said that the government was looking forward to work closely with the US in the post conflict development initiatives.

Minister Bathiudeen said that Sri Lanka offered an outstanding scale of trade and investment potential for the international business community.

“ There are opportunities in investing in infrastructure development, IT and business process out sourcing industry, hospitality, healthcare, education, agro-based and manufacturing industries. The government offers 100 percent foreign ownership in these industries”, he said.
