Sri Lanka’s Manju Wanniarachchi beat Sean Mc Goldrick of Wales to win the gold medal in the Bantam Weight 56kg category final of the Commonwealth Games boxing competition at the Tal Katora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi today.
It was a golden moment in the annals of Sri Lanka sports history as Wanniarachchi’s medal is Sri Lanka’s first boxing gold in 72 years in the Commonwealth Games history. It was Prince Edward who presented the gold medal for Wanniarachchi at the victory ceremony concluded a short while ago.
