Daduru Oya headworks nearing completion [October 20 2010]

Over 85 percent of the headwork construction of the Daduru Oya multi purpose irrigation project has been completed. This includes the Dam, Sluice gates and the spill over area.

The project estimated to cost Rs. 6.2 billion will provide water for irrigation for over 27,000 acres. In addition is will also provide drinking water for 50, 000 families while also generating 1.5 megawatts of power.

Deduru Oya, the largest irrigational project in the North-Western province is being funded by the Sri Lankan government and design and construction is also handled by Sri Lanka engineers. The reservoir will hold 75 million cubic meters of water.
