Reconstruction of Northern railway kicks off in November [October 21 2010]

The Indian government is to commence reconstruction of the Northern railway line in November.

The launching ceremony will be held during the visit of Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna.

The railway line between Omanthai and Palai and railway line between Medawachchiya and Thalaimannar will be reconstructed by the Indian Railway Construction Company Limited (IRCON).

Funded by the Indian government the railway lines will be completed under two phases - the 43 km Medawachchiya to Madhu and Madhu to Thalai-mannar.
