New Census in July 2011



<p>The 14th scientific islandwide census by the Department of Census and Statistics will be carried out in July, 2011.


<p>The Director General of the Department of Census and Statistics, Mrs. D.P.B.Suranjana Vidyaratne said the department is in the planning stage and various new technologies will be adopted to the census.

<p>He said over 65,000 volunteers will be recruited for a period of one month to carry out the work related to the islandwide census and they will be trained at the relevant regional offices of the Department.

<p>Last population census of Sri Lanka was carried out in 2001 in only 18 districts. The North and East were excluded due to the terrorist activities.
