JVP copies Ranils ‘pola’ campaign [November 1 2010]

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) appeared to have copied the village pola campaign of the UNP as they distributed leaflets today. The JVP today launched an island wide leaflet distribution campaign against the rising cost of living.

The campaign according to JVP MP and Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath is the Peoples Movement against the Tax Burden. The party believes that the high taxes levied on commodities have resulted in the rising cost of living.

The campaign was launched at the Manning Market in Pettah today with several JVP leaders participating in it. It is to be held at village and district level in the next few days. Earlier during election campaigns in recent times, UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe visited village markets (pola) to do campaigning, making use of coast of living as a tool.
