Kothmale tunnel opens for public viewing [November 4 2010]

Sri Lanka’s longest tunnel that built in the Upper Kotmale Hydropower project is opened for public now.

The 12.9km long tunnel, with a diameter of 5.2 metres to carry water from the Kotmale stream to the power station was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, today.

Upper Kotamle is almost the country's last large scale Hydro Power project with the capacity of 150 MW power generation added to national Grid with Japanese aid.
