Ceylon electricity Board has decided to only use energy saving florescent bulbs for street lighting in the future.

Currently there are around 700, 000 street lights and out of this over 30 percent is ‘normal’ bulbs. “Soon we will replace them with CFL,” said the Minister of Power and Energy, Champika Ranawaka.

He also said that they are seriously perusing nuclear energy and predicted that by 2020 it would be a reality.

He said that in 1980 only 10 percent of the population had electricity and this was increased to 85 percent by 2011. “We plan to provide electricity to entire country by 2012,” he assured.
