Police and Prison departments are making two separate investigations over the lashes that took place in Welikada Prison today.
Over 45 policemen were injured and were hospitalised after being attacked by prisoners. Prison sources told the Observer Online that the incident took place during an early morning raid at the Welikada Prison. A team of Police officials had been conducting a search operation for narcotics hen they were attacked by a group of prisoners. The injured Policemen have been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
