All unauthorized structures in the Colombo District will be removed immediately, Disaster Management Minister A.H.M. Fowzie said. While demolishing unauthorized structures in the city the authorities will properly reconstruct the canal and drainage systems in the city to avoid threats of floods in future.
Already, officials have been instructed to take immediate measures to remove all the minor unauthorized structures and a final decision on big structures would be taken soon. The authorities are making plans to manage rain water with an efficient drainage system. It has been disclosed that unauthorized structures in the city too would contribute to floods.
