Using polythene in botanical gardens has been banned by the Ministry of Environment as the gardens are highly polluted with polythene.
According to Ministry sources, polythene has become a menace in botanical gardens, especially in Peradeniya Botanical garden, where over three tractor loads of polythene are collected
