Sabotage ruled out in power disruption [November 28 2010]

Electricity officials ruled out sabotage and said the disruption of power supply to many part of the country today was due to a tripping of Boyagama and Kotmale high power transmission line. Official sources said the major blackout resulted as a section of the National Grid was tripped due to lightening which had been instrumental an instability in the system.

Ruling out any permanent damage to the system, CEB sources said that they were able to restore the power supply gradually, section by session, before dusk.
