A Management plan for Hantana [December 31 2010]

The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) is to prepare a Management plan for Hanthana to protect its rich bio diversity resources and also to promote the area as a tourist destination.

Hanthana, which is a mountain range in the close proximity of Kandy city, is one of the water catchment of the Mahaweli River. Because of t Considering its he hydrological importance of the area it was declared as a Hanthana Environmental Protective Area by the CEA on February 17,  2010.

Today, Hantana is under threat due to forest clearing, forest fires, unauthorized constructions across water ways and dumping waste into water.

Charitha Herath Chairman CEA said by preparing management plan for Hanthana Area the CEA hopes to protect Hanthana area while utilizing the resources in sustainable manner, facilitating university students and other researchers and to promote it as a unique tourist destination.
