The Ministry of Resettlement said number of displaced people in welfare centres in Vavuniya has been reduced to 18,000 and they would be resettled soon.

Deputy Minister V. Muralitharan said the highest priority has given to de-mining activities in the remaining areas and over 2,000 army soldiers are engaged in clearing land for AP mines and other deadly devices in LTTE’s former battle fields.

“ People in Mullathivu remain in camps as these areas need to be cleared for mines”, he said.

Minister said the areas were developed with new roads, bridges and for the first time they were given electricity.
